Coyotepe
From the towers and domes of the Coyotepe fortress, a panoramic view of Granada, Masaya, the Masaya lagoon and the volcanic complex of the same name is offered; as well as sights of Mombacho Volcano and the heights of El Crucero. From the north corner tower you can see the Masaya volcano and the city of Managua, with the Chiltepe Peninsula, the Apoyeque volcano and Lake Xolotlán in the background.
From the east corner you can see the Charco de Tisma area, the Malacatoya plains and part of the Great Lake of Nicaragua. To the south, part of the Cordillera Chontaleña can be seen on the horizon. In the central dome, there is a museum in memory of Benjamín Zeledón and other fallen combatants in 1912, previously it was the office of the National Guard that was quartered in this fortress. Visitors can see old photos of General Zeledón and El Coyotepe from that time, as well as fragments of the hero's letters. It has become a site of tourist interest in Masaya, being visited by nationals and foreigners, who can take walks and experience the terror of being locked in gloomy dungeons without sunlight, these have been painted with graffiti dating back to the 90’s.
